Uflex Steering Partners with MLF Bass Pro Angler Gerald Spohrer
Sarasota FL – Uflex USA, a leader in steering and control systems for the marine industry, has gotten involved with the Major League Fishing Market, by partnering with pro angler Gerald Spohrer, just in time for the 2020 tournament season.
Gerald runs a Phoenix 921 Elite paired with a 250 HP Suzuki DF250SS, that is now controlled by Uflex Steering. During tournaments or fishing in general, it’s important to have a reliable, quality system to give you complete control over the boat. Spohrer will now happily rely on Uflex.
“Growing up bass fishing in the bayous of South Louisiana made me understand the importance of a quality steering system,” says Spohrer, “I need something that can keep up with my hardcore demands while on tour and fishing offshore on my newly refurbished saltwater boat, and Uflex is the perfect fit.”
In addition to his busy life on the road traveling as a pro angler, he found some time to take on a rebuild. After finding an old Contender, he repaired, rebuilt and repowered so he could get some time fishing offshore during his time off. He installed the Uflex SilverSteer and Uflex Master Drive and was blown away by the performance. “Gulf fishing can be nerve-racking at times because the fish are hugging closely to offshore oil rigs- the Master Dive allows me to choose the right steering control in order to hover perfectly,” says Spohrer.
Uflex is excited to announce their involvement with Major League Fishing’s Bass Pro Tour and Pro Angler Gerald Spohrer. The 2020 Bass Fishing Season is off to a great start and Spohrer is glad to have a steering system he knows he can rely on.

Bling Sauce – Evolution of Our Brand
You are probably curious about “Bling Sauce.” What is Bling Sauce? What happened to Boat Bling? Did the company sell? Did the products I love change? I’ll ensure that all of these answers are very clear as you read through the rest of this blog.
A lot of people don’t like change. A lot of businesses don’t like change. We’re not those people. We understand that change is inevitable and must be embraced to be successful. Welcome to the new Bling Sauce website. Bling Sauce is simply the new marketing name for your beloved “Sauces.” Boat Bling, Inc. remains the company, its principle owners and staff remain the same and the products you have loved, some of you since we debuted back in 2006, are the same. Thanks to each of you, we have grown exponentially over the past 5 years, which is allowing us embrace this change. I’ve been asked since we first started, “come out with RV Bling or Motorcycle Bling or you name anything else with the word Bling.” My answer was always simple: “not yet, I want us to be great at something (marine) vs average (or worse) at a bunch of things.” Think about it in these terms: Doctors and Lawyers specialize in one or two aspects of their field and don’t try and do everything. I was concerned if we tried to do everything, we would fail because we wouldn’t be great at anything. I have believed since day 1 this is a crucial aspect of any business and I wanted Boat Bling to be known as a world class marine care product, respected by retailers, manufacturers and appreciated by boaters. We are recommended by the leading OEM vinyl manufacturers in the industry, work with some of the top boat manufacturers and are sold at over 1200 retail outlets with some of the biggest retailer names in the world such as West Marine, Bass Pro, Cabela’s, Academy Sports, Overtons and more. Are we done with our focus on Marine? Absolutely not. Have we met all of our goals in Marine? Absolutely not. Marine will always be our baseline. We’ll always be here as you, your family and your boating needs evolve.
Boat Bling can now reach out and evolve to the next phase of the business; that is Bling Sauce. Bling Sauce is simply Boat Bling without the “Boat” and Hot Sauce without the “Hot” or any other Sauce. We chose this after years of thinking, planning and market visualization to simplify our brand. With this change to Bling Sauce, it continues to align perfectly with our mission.
“Provide the most discriminating enthusiast with a simple, easy to use line of care products that exceed expectations in quality, appeal, and provides world class results in less time than any other products.”
As many of you know, Hot Sauce works great on RVs, UTVs, cars, and even shower doors. Now, we are specifically marketing to these industries with our existing products that we also know work great on these applications. We are in final developments of NEW products that will hopefully become the flagship product of many of these industries such as RV, Powersports and Aviation. We are proud to have your trust, loyalty and nothing is more important that your recommendation of our products. We are excited about our evolution with Bling Sauce but promise you, everything we have done for the marine industry and learned over the past 15 years, will not just fade away. Boating is a part of our individual and company DNA for life.

2 Tips to Get Started with Big Swimbaits
Bassmaster Elite Series pro Chris Zaldain is well known in the bass fishing world for being a swimbait aficionado. Whether he is looking for five big bites in a tournament or enjoying his local Texas fisheries during our current COVID-19 quarantine, you can bet the Zaldaingerous one has a big swimbait or two at the ready.
Large swimbaits can intimidate anglers of all skill levels. It’s a presentation that requires confidence, as you may not get a bunch of bites with a big swimmer, but you could catch the fish of a lifetime. Fortunately, Zaldain graciously offered a pair of helpful tips to shorten the learning curve associated with this technique. Zaldain emphasizes now is the perfect time to try an oversized swimbait at your local fishery.
Replace your spinnerbait
Spinnerbaits are a springtime staple in bass fishing. They are almost as reliable as Zaldain’s Yamaha Outboard and are something most anglers have some experience with. Zaldain’s first tip for swimbait greenhorns is to replace your 3/8-ounce spinnerbait with a big swimbait.
“All the conditions and clues you’d look for to throw a spinnerbait also apply for big swimbaits,” Zaldain explained. “Perfect conditions would be a little bit of cloud cover and a fair bit of wind. Target windy points, isolated laydowns, bridges, or any other obvious pieces of isolated shallow cover. Another thing a lot of people don’t realize is off-colored water is a good thing for swimbaits.”
The Carhartt pro mainly employs two sizes of the Megabass Magdraft Swimbait, the 6-inch and 8-inch versions. And he isn’t embellishing when he says he throws these lures in the same scenarios most anglers would reach for spinnerbait, chatterbait, or other more traditional offerings.
This one little tip takes a lot of the intimidation factor out of swimbaiting. By thinking of a beefy swimbait as a replacement for your spinnerbait you now know where to throw it and what conditions improve the bite.
2. Fish it ‘uphill’
Zaldain’s second tip to help you gain confidence with a big swimbait is to fish it uphill. More specifically, nose your boat as if you are fishing from the bank, cast the swimbait out towards deeper, open water and reel it towards the shore.
“Fishing a swimbait uphill will help you get more bites if you are just starting out with them,” Zaldain said. “Casting the bait to deeper water and then slowly rolling it back towards the shallows does two important things. It keeps your lure in the strike zone longer, and shows big pressured bass something they aren’t as used to seeing,”
This tactic takes a little positioning if you are in a boat, but is great news for the bank fishermen and women out there. Fishing off the shore is a perfect place to try one of these swimbaits for the first time. Just remember to bring your swim trunks with you, as big swimbaits can be relatively expensive and you’d hate to loose one to a snag!
If Zaldain had to resort to one single swimbait he’d choose a 6-inch Magdraft in Albino Pearl Shad color and throw it on 15-pound Seaguar InvisX fluorocarbon. The right rod is another integral part of the setup and Zaldain throws 95% of his swimbaits on a 7’2” Heavy Megabass Orichi XX (Perfect Pitch) rod.
While Zaldain has his swimbait equipment down to a science, he emphasizes that most traditional jig rods will work great for a big swimbait. A seven-foot plus heavy action rod that is relatively stiff will get the job done. For more detailed tips on swimbaits and other techniques – follow Chris on Facebook, Instagram, or checkout his new YouTube channel.
Get outside, be safe, #FishSmart, and give a big swimbait a shot this spring whether you are trying to learn a new technique or you are after your new personal best bass.
