Nashua, NH – June 7, 2016 – Raymarine Pro-Ambassador Skylar Hamilton of Dandridge, Tennessee won the pro division of the Bassmaster Central Open tournament in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The win earned him a $45,000 grand-prize, and a berth in the prestigious 2017 GEICO Bassmaster Classic.
The waters of the Arkansas river proved tricky for 21-year old Hamilton and the competition, but Skylar quickly figured out the fish and was in the lead at the end of day 2. The competition was very fierce though. In the end he beat the second place finisher by only 1 ounce. Skylar’s total bag for the event was 45 pounds, 6 ounces.
“My Raymarine electronics were really critical for keeping me in the game” said Hamilton who runs Raymarine’s latest generation eS Series Multifunction Display with CHIRP DownVision™ as well as a Dragonfly-7 CHIRP Sonar. “The GPS in my eS98 was critical to my win this weekend” said Hamilton. “I was fishing in the backwaters in the reeds and grass, and being able to record an accurate path on the way in helped me immensely when it was time to navigate back out. The water is so shallow back there that I had to be very precise so as not to get stuck or lost.” Hamilton also made extensive use of the eS98’s power saver mode throughout the tournament. “Once I found my sweet spots I was able work them all day long while conserving my battery power” said Hamilton. “With a simple touch of the screen I could take a look at the electronics, then put them back in low-power standby. It was a huge advantage to not have to start up my motor and spook the fish by making too much noise.”
